How do I capture wall elevations using AR?
Wall elevation capture in SiteSurvey AR works by switching from floor plan mode to elevation mode within the app. You point the device camera at the target wall and walk across it at a consistent distance. The app records the vertical surface geometry, including features such as windows, doors, sockets, panels, and wall-mounted equipment, generating a scaled elevation drawing.
Elevations are captured wall by wall and are automatically linked to the corresponding wall in the floor plan. The app references the floor plan geometry to apply the correct wall length to the elevation, maintaining dimensional consistency between the two views. Height measurements are taken from sensor data in the same way as floor plan dimensions.
The elevation view is useful for fit-out surveys, condition assessments, and refurbishment projects where the vertical arrangement of services, finishes, or equipment needs to be recorded alongside the floor plan. It removes the need for separate elevation sketches or photographs with dimension callouts, consolidating spatial data capture into a single workflow.
Captured elevations can be annotated with labels, condition notes, and photo hotspots. A hotspot links a photograph taken at a specific point on the elevation to the corresponding location in the drawing, making it easy to review evidence in context when producing reports or scopes of work. Elevation drawings are included in the same export formats as floor plans, including DXF, PDF, and PNG.
