How does SiteSurvey work without an internet connection?

When a device has no internet connection, SiteSurvey continues to function by storing everything locally in an encrypted on-device database. Form responses, photographs, AR floorplan data, voice notes, and barcode scans are all written to local storage as the operative works, exactly as they would be if the device were online.

Before a surveyor travels to a site, their assigned forms, reference images, lookup lists, and any supporting documents are pre-loaded onto the device while it still has connectivity. This means the complete set of work is available from the moment they arrive, even if they lose signal before stepping out of the vehicle.

When connectivity is restored, whether on Wi-Fi, 4G, or 5G, SiteSurvey begins syncing automatically in the background without any action from the operative. Uploaded records appear in the web portal for managers to review as they arrive. If a connection drops mid-upload, the sync process resumes from the last successfully transferred record rather than restarting from scratch, which prevents duplicate submissions.

The offline capability is designed for the environments where site surveys actually take place. Basement plant rooms, substation buildings, underground utilities infrastructure, and large warehouse facilities all present connectivity challenges that would interrupt a tool that requires a constant connection. SiteSurvey treats offline operation as a normal condition rather than a fallback mode.
